Punjab University vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood has constituted a committee to collect the President's Relief Fund and organise relief operation at quake hit areas.

Faculty of Law Dean Professor Dr Dil Muhammad Malik has been appointed as Chairman of Earthquake Relief Committee. The committee had fixed a target of Rs 5 million collection for President's Relief Fund for earthquake victims but an amount of Rs 10.4 million has been collected so far and hopefully it will be increased to Rs 12.3 million.

On the instructions of VC, a team of doctors with paramedical staff has also been sent to Balakot under the supervision of Center for Integrated Mountain Research Director Khalida Tabassam Khan.

The committee purchased food items, medicines, winter cloths, blankets and tents. With the efforts of University College of Pharmacy Principal Professor Dr Muhammad Jamshaid medicines worth Rs 3 millions were collected as a donation from the pharmaceutical industries.

Five PU buses carrying all purchased as well as donated items have been sent to Balakot and Muzaffarabad. Another team of doctors has also been sent to Muzaffarabad under the supervision of Professor Dr Khawaja Haris Rasheed. Apart from this, two more trucks and two rapid buses carrying donations collected by the PU have been sent to the effected areas.
